While a consumerism race drives the lives of millions of Americans, some of them choose to stay away from a life they consider absurd and meaningless. Uncomfortable with consumerist values and the hyper-stimulating modern world, they choose to live their lives differently, away from the city and closer to nature.  

Today more than 750,000 people in theUSA have made the choice to live off-the-grid, in self-sufficiency.  

In pure wilderness somewhere in southeast Alaska lives Jerry, a former real-estate agent from Michigan who decided to settle in Alaska after a professional burnout.  Far from any road and completely off the grid, he runs a shellfish farm in the world's cleanest waters where seals,orcas and humpback whales often swim by.
