It's not something we often get to see in the U.S. when everything is standardized, and there is equipment and a system for everything.  But when tradesmen are forced through budget constraints or differing amounts of equipment, they develop skills common to a region.  Those skill sets can range far and wide.  Watch this fantastic video of one man's skills pitching gravel:
